MICHAEL JORDAN

One of the all time most successful basketball players on and off the court, Michael Jordan was born in Brooklyn in 1963. Jordan was drafted from North Carolina in 1984 in the first round. Hometown hero Hakeem Olajuwan was 1st overall pick to Houston where he had an extraordinary career, Sam Bowie was 2nd with high hopes, but ended up having a disappointing career, and Jordan drafted 3rd by the Bulls would become their franchise player.

Jordan had a tremendous career with 6 NBA titles, 6 Finals MVP, 5 NBA MVPs, Rookie of the year, leading all time scorer for the Bulls, and for playoffs. The list goes on and on, and anyone who has followed basketball who can forget the slam dunk contest between Dominique Wilkins and Jordan. There are so many memorable images of Jordan most of him coming through in the clutch or hugging an NBA trophy. Jordan was successful off the court as well with clothing, advertisements, Space Jam, and a short stint at baseball, now he is an NBA team owner.

I have to say I wasn’t a huge Bulls fan growing up and Jordan wasn’t my favorite. I was that kid that always loved the underdog. I was a Barkley fan and pretty sure you can say Jordan got the best of him, but the fierce competition between the two was what made the 90’s in the NBA world. They took over for Magic and Bird. The one thing that I love about Jordan and you just don’t see it much today if we see it at all. Every time he took the court you could tell he was thinking what he could do better tonight, how can I score more, or get 1 more steal. Even though he was the best player on the court every night, he always looked to improve and I think that was what made him so great. He never thought of himself as the best, each night he just wanted to improve from the night before. There is no denying his numbers, Jordan is one of the top players of all time, and his legacy will live on for ages to come.
